Launch of the Framework for Collaborative Action on Tuberculosis and Comorbidities

The TB epidemic is driven by various determinants, and five risk factors (HIV, diabetes, undernutrition, tobacco and alcohol use disorders) contributed to 45% of all TB episodes in 2021. Furthermore, people with TB often have comorbidities including mental health disorders, silicosis and viral hepatitis, which are risk factors for poor TB treatment outcomes.  

To facilitate collaborative action for people-centred services for people with TB and comorbidities, the World Health Organization (WHO) has published the Framework for Collaborative Action on TB and Comorbidities. The framework aims to decrease the joint burden of TB and comorbidities, and outlines  key steps to establish and strengthen collaboration across health programmes and across sectors.  

The  webinar aims to:  

1. Bring together ministry of health representatives responsible for TB, HIV, NCDs, primary health care, tobacco cessation, undernutrition and substance use, policy makers, international technical and funding organizations, researchers, nongovernmental and civil society organizations and WHO staff to share best practices and experiences in the management of TB and comorbidities;  

2. Discuss and disseminate the content of the new WHO Framework for Collaborative Action on TB and Comorbidities to promote its uptake; and 

3. Share perspectives from partners and stakeholders on how to catalyse collaborative action on TB and comorbidities.
